Carl Frampton will challenge Leo Santa Cruz for WBA featherweight title. This is a jump in weight for Carl Frampton and maybe his biggest challenge in his career. The bout is set for summer and will headline Showtime Championship Boxing Card.
Frampton, is coming off a split decision over Scott Quigg, scores were: judges: Carlos Sucre 116-112, Dave Parris 116-112, Levi Martinez 113-115. The fight took place on Feb 27th 2016 in the UK. He won the WBA belt from Quigg but was stripped of the title after failing to fight Guillermo Rigondeaux. But he was looking to make a bigger fight against Leo Santa Cruz. Frampton is a good polished boxer and has decent hand speed, technique and reflexes. He will need this against the come forward boxer / banger Leo Santa Cruz. This is going to be a tough fight for the 5’5” Frampton, because he’ll be fighting a bigger guy in 5’7 ½” Santa Cruz.
Leo Santa Cruz is also coming off a TKO 5R win over Kiko Martinez this past Feb. Martinez was down twice in round one. Santa Cruz is a better fighter in every way over Frampton. Santa Cruz is even a better boxer. The only thing Frampton can really hope to do in this fight is to hit and move. Which is his style, pop shot move, counter pop shot again. I wouldn’t say that Santa Cruz’s style is made for Frampton. Santa Cruz does work in the ring to win the fights. He’s not going to try and get a cheap win, he is going in to fight and fight hard.
